Auch Zena El Khalil konfrontiert die Schönheit der Ornamente mit der Gewalt ihrer Realität. Was zunächst rosa-naiv und mädchenhaft erscheint, erweist sich schnell als mehrfach metaierte und gebrochene Antwort auf die Allgegenwart von Gewehren, Panzern und Bomben, von Zerstörung und Bedrohung – auf ihr Leben in der kriegsgeschädigten Stadt Beirut: In Hope erzeugt der Gewehrschuss der jungen Frau eine abstrakte, harmonische Wunschwelt aus floralen und ornamentalen Formen.

Zena El Khalil also confronts the beauty of ornament with the violence in her reality. What seems to be pink. naïve and girlish at first, soon turns out to be a multiply divided and refracted response to the omnipresence of guns, tanks and bombs, of destruction and threat – a response to her life in the war-damaged city of Beirut: in Hope the young woman's gunshot creates an abstract, harmonious ideal world from floral and ornamental forms.

Wo die klebrige Allgegenwart der Nachrichten dafür gesorgt hat, dass zahllose Menschen die vormals weite Welt wie eine schmutzige kleine Kugel erleben[14], machen Fischli und Weiss den Blick wieder frei und weit, indem sie eine kleine, überschaubare Welt schaffen, die ist wie einen Garten mit all seinen stillen, alltäglichen Sensationen. Hier hat alles seinen Raum, auch wenn dieser klein ist und im Abseits liegt wie jener unter der Treppe im Frankfurter Museum für Moderne Kunst, der aussieht wie eine verlassene Werkstatt mit Ausguss, Telephon und Aschenbecher. Erst in einem solchen Residuum können die Dinge als ihre eigenen Doubles einfach da sein.
