Jede Impulsänderung ist nach dem zweiten Newtonschen Axiom mit einer Kraft, die das Fluid auf seine Umgebung ausübt, verbunden. Diese Kraft muss die das Fluid enthaltende Struktur, d.~h. das Rohr auffangen, man bezeichnet sie deshalb auch als {bf Stützkraft}. Für sie gilt somit:
