Während wir Hühnerbeine aßen, fragte Ghotam mich aus. Ravi Ghotam war ein weiser und liebenswürdiger Gesprächspartner. Wir sprachen Englisch, und ich hatte den Eindruck, dass er über Europa gut informiert war. Wir saßen noch eine lange Zeit und redeten. Es war immer noch heiß. Ich war die Hitze nicht gewohnt und war froh, als endlich ein Sturm kam. Die Stille der Nacht wich einem Aufruhr der Donner, Blitz und Windböen peitschen. Sie fegten über die Baumwipfel. Blitze zerrissen den Himmel. Dann war der Sturm vorbei, und brachte eine angenehme Kühle. Am nächsten Tag waren wir in der Stadt. Wir suchten die Jama Masjid Moschee und den malerischen Basar Chadni Chowk in Old Delhi auf. Am Nachmittag besuchten wir das Grab von Mahatma Gandhi. Delhi war eine Stadt der Kontraste. Sie war voller Reichtum, Glamour, Aktivität, Initiative, aber auch voller Armut und Elend.

While we ate chicken legs, Ghotam asked me. Ravi Ghotam was a wise and loving partner. We spoke English, and I had the impression that he was well informed about Europe. 
 We sat a long time and talked. It was still hot. I was not accustomed to the heat and was happy when finally a storm came. The silence of the night gave way to a revolt of the Thunder, lightning and wind gusts whip. You swept over the treetops. Lightning ripped the sky. Then, the storm was over, and brought a pleasant coolness. 
 The next day, we were in the city. We went to the Jama Masjid mosque and the picturesque Bazaar Chadni Chowk in old Delhi. In the afternoon, we visited the tomb of Mahatma Gandhi. 
 Delhi was a city of contrasts. She was full of wealth, glamour, activity, initiative, but also full of poverty and misery.
