Gestiftet wird der mit 25.000 Euro dotierte Ehrenpreis von Friede Springer, Mitglied im Kuratorium des Axel-Springer-Preises für junge Journalisten.

This Honorary Prize is endowed with 25,000 euros by Friede Springer, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists.

Mit dem Ehrenpreis wurden zuvor u. a. Ferry Porsche (ehemaliger Geschäftsführer der Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche KG), Norbert Reithofer (Vorstandsvorsitzender BMW AG), Michael Schumacher (Formel-1-Rennfahrer) und Martin Winterkorn (Vorstandsvorsitzender Volkswagen AG) sowie Dieter Zetsche (Vorstandsvorsitzender Daimler AG) und Alan Mulally (Vorstandsvorsitzender der Ford Motor Company) ausgezeichnet.

Previous winners of the prize include Ferry Porsche (former managing director of the Dr. Ing. h c. F. Porsche KG), Norbert Reithofer (CEO of BMW AG), Michael Schumacher (Formula 1 racing driver) and Martin Winterkorn (CEO of Volkswagen AG) as well as Dieter Zetsche (CEO of Daimler AG) and Alan Mulally (CEO of the Ford Motor Company).

Die niederländische Publizistin Ayaan Hirsi Ali wird am 10. Mai 2012 mit dem „Axel-Springer-Ehrenpreis“ ausgezeichnet.

Dutch journalist Ayaan Hirsi Ali will be awarded the "Axel Springer Honorary Prize" on 10 May 2012.
