Zwischen Werkbahn und Hochofenanlage wurde auf dem Gelände des Bochumer Vereins für Bergbau und Gußstahlfabrikation eine monumentale Stahlkonstruktion errichtet, die im Jahr zuvor auf der Industrie- und Gewerbeausstellung in Düsseldorf für Furore gesorgt hatte. Ergänzt durch eine massive Backsteinmauer wurde diese Halle das Herzstück der Bochumer Produktionsanlagen und versorgte als Gaskraftzentrale über sechzig Jahre lang die Fabrik und später auch die angegliederten Werke mit Energie.

Its design had caused a sensation the previous year when it was presented at the trade and industry exhibition in Düsseldorf. Supplemented by the addition of a massive brick wall, it was to serve for over sixty years as the central gas power plant at the heart of the Bochum production site, supplying energy for the coal and steelworks as well as the ancillary plants.
