Die Ergebnisse der Debatte zum Grün- und Weißbuch sowie das Kyoto-Protokoll führten zur Richtlinie 2001/77/EC. Diese Richtlinie legte erstmals für alle Mitgliedsstaaten fest, dass Energie aus erneuerbaren Energiequellen zu fördern und der Anteil dieser Energien zu steigern ist.

The debate on the Green and White Paper and the Kyoto Protocol led to the Directive 2001/77/EC. This policy put in place for all Member States for the first time, that promote energy from renewable energy sources and increase the proportion of these energies.
