Intensive Bejagung durch den Menschen führte fast zur Ausrottung der Wölfe in Europa. Erst in den letzten Jahren wurde Wölfe aus Nachzuchten wieder ausgewildert und leben in Naturschutzgebieten von denen sie sich langsam wieder ausbreiten.
