Jammerbild

Das läppische Jammerbild des Bethmann Hollwegschen „Kabinetts“, eine Regierung, die reaktionär bis auf die Knochen, dabei ohne Plan, ohne jede Richtlinie der Politik, mit Lakaien und Bürokraten statt Staatsmännern, mit einem schrullenhaften Zickzackkurs, im Innern der Spielball einer ordinären Junkerclique und eines frechen Intrigenspiels des höfischen Gesindels, in der auswärtigen Politik der Spielball eines unzurechnungsfähigen persönlichen Regiments, vor wenigen Jahren verächtlicher Stiefelputzer der „schwächsten Regierung der Welt“, des russischen Zarismus, gestützt auf eine Armee, die zu einem enormen Teil aus Sozialdemokraten besteht, mit dem stupidesten Drill, den infamsten Soldatenmißhandlungen der Welt – dies die „stärkste Regierung der Gegenwart“!

That foolish picture of misery, the Bethmann-Hollweg “cabinet”: a government reactionary to the bone and therefore without a plan or political direction, with lackeys and bureaucrats instead of statesmen, with a whimsical zig-zag course; internally the football of a vulgar Junker clique and the insolent intrigues of a courtly rabble; in its foreign policy, the football of a personal authority accountable to none; only a few years ago the contemptible shoeshine boy of the “weakest government in the world,” Russian Tsarism; propped up by an army which to an enormous extent consists of Social Democrats, with the stupidest drill, the most infamous mistreatment of soldiers in the world – this is the “strongest contemporary government”!
