Kapitalzins

Er muß aber auch – und das merkt er sehr deutlich – einen Theil seines Gewinnes an den Geldkapitalisten, dem er Geld entleiht, als Kapitalzins zahlen, einen Theil dem Kaufmann als Handelsprofit lassen, endlich, wenn er Landwirth ist, einen Theil als Grundrente entweder als Pächter dem Grundbesitzer abtreten oder – wenn er selbst Grundbesitzer ist – zur Verzinsung des Kapitals ausgeben, das er zum Ankauf seines Grundbesitzes anwenden mußte.

He must also – and this he notices very plainly – pay a portion of his profit as interest to the money capitalist from whom he borrowed money, leave a portion to the merchant as trading profit, and finally, if he be a tenant farmer, cede a portion as ground rent to the landowner or – if he is his own landlord – set it aside to pay off the capital which he had been obliged to employ for the purchase of his property.

Das ist auch meist der Fall. Nicht nur sind oft mit dem Grund und Boden materielle und immaterielle Vortheile verbunden, die in der Grundrente nicht zum Vorschein kommen – der Besitz eines Landhauses oder Schlosses, auf den wir schon hingewiesen, Produktion von Lebensmitteln für den Selbstgebrauch, Jagd, politischer Einfluß –; die Grundrente hatte auch bis vor Kurzem in Europa – und hat noch in den Städten und der Umgebung der Städte – im Gegensatz zum Kapitalzins die Tendenz, zu steigen.

The situation is entirely different, however, with the general rate of profit, the most general law of which is expressed in the fact that the rate of profit is equal for all capitals, or, and this is the same thing, that the amounts of profit are related to each other directly and exactly as the magnitudes of the capitals.
