A steering column apparatus comprising: a steering column (1) provided with a steering lock mount portion (51) on its outer circumference and supporting a steering shaft (13) rotatably; a steering lock (53) having a lock key (63) for latching said steering shaft (13) and a contact portion (61) that is in contact with a part of said steering lock mount portion (51) of said steering column (1); and a lock bracket (73) having a contact portion (71) that is in contact with another part of said steering lock mount portion (51), said contact portion of said steering lock (61), and said contact portion (71) of said lock bracket (73) embracing said steering lock mount portion (51) of said steering column (1) characterized in that the steering lock mount portion (51) of said steering column (1) abuts at least one of said steering lock (53) and said lock bracket (73) with an abutting surface having a non-circular cross section.
