Eine einfache Digitalisierung der historischen Vorlagen kommt schon deswegen nicht in Frage, weil damals Majuskel-, Minuskel- und Kursivschrift eigenständige Alphabete mit nur geringem Bezug untereinander waren.

Simply digitalizing the historical texts was out of the question, since the majuscule, minuscule and cursive fonts were independent alphabets with little in common back in those days.

In vielen Fällen ist der Unterschied zwichen Majuskel und Minuskel so gering, daß nur geraten werden konnte, was ursprünglich gemeint war.

In many cases it is very hard to make out the difference between small and capital letters so one could only guess sometimes.

In the 14th and 15th century the humanist minuscule was created from the Carolingian minuscule in Italy.
