Der Dom ist eine der meistbesuchten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt Augsburg. Die Ursprünge des Domes werden auf das 8. Jahrhundert datiert. Der Dom ist 113 m lang, 40m breut und seine Türme sind 62m hoch. Der Dom liegt innerhalb der stadtmauern der ehemaligen römischen Provinzhautstadt Augusta Vindelicorum. Im laufe der Jahrhunderte erlebte der Augsburger Dom zahlreiche Umbauten, wobei viele Kunzschatze verloren gingen. Die letzten bedeutenden Umbaumaßnahmen fanden 1863 statt, als der Dom im Stil der Neugotik umgebaut wurde. Der Augsburger Dom ist eine lang gestreckte, fünfschiffige Basilika mit einem östlichen Umgangschor und einem einschiffigen Westchor. Der ist Würdig zum besichtigen.
