In seinem zweiten Jahr in Leipzig hatte Bach vom ersten Sonntag nach Trinitatis bis zum Palmsonntag in seinem zweiten Kantatenzyklus konsequent Choralkantaten komponiert, war jedoch zu Ostern wieder zu Kantaten auf freierer Textgrundlage übergegangen.

In his second year Bach had composed a second annual cycle of chorale cantatas between the first Sunday after Trinity and Palm Sunday, but for Easter had returned to cantatas on more varied texts.

Bach hatte in seinem zweiten Jahr in Leipzig Choralkantaten komponiert zwischen dem ersten Sonntag nach Trinitatis und Palmsonntag, war zu Ostern jedoch zu Kantaten auf freien Text zurückgekehrt, vielleicht weil ein Textdichter nicht länger zur Verfügung stand.
