Parapsychologie

The following major topics are discussed: (1) the founding of the "Institute für Grenzgebiete der Psychologie und Psychohygiene" (Institute for Border Areas of Psychology and Mental Hygiene) in 1950; (2) phases in the development and integration of parapsychology, from the establishment of a university professorship to the founding of the "Abteilung Psychologie und Grenzgebiete der Psychologie" (Department of Psychology and Border Areas of Psychology) at the University of Freiburg; (3) the foundation of the "Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Parapsychologie" (Scientific Society for the Advancement of Parapsychology) in 1981; (4) the history of the journal "Zeitschrift für Parapsychologie und Grenzgebiete der Psychologie"; and (5) the establishment of a special library for parapsychology funded by the German Research Association in cooperation with the library of the University of Freiburg. Major research activities in the field of parapsychology are outlined; methodological questions are discussed.
