Der große Erfolg des 1903 erschienenen Romans The Hound of the Baskervilles (dt.: Der Hund der Baskervilles) veranlasste. 1927 erschien der letzte Sammelband mit Erzählungen vor Doyles Tod – The Casebook Of Sherlock Holmes Am 7. Juli 1930 starb Doyle in Folge eines Herzinfarkts in Windlesham. Er war zweimal verheiratet und wurde auf dem All Saints Churchyard beerdigt.
