Schriftsystem

Die Schriften der Welt lassen sich nach der Art der jeweils verwendeten Schriftsysteme in unterschiedliche Schriftregionen einteilen. Die Einteilung stimmt gemäß der These „Das Alphabet folgt der Religion“ (David Diringer) weitestgehend mit den Einflussgebieten der Weltreligionen überein. So lässt sich in etwa sagen, dass katholisch und evangelisch beeinflusste Regionen in lateinischer Schrift schreiben, christlich orthodoxe Regionen in kyrillischer oder griechischer Schrift und islamische Regionen in arabischer Schrift. Mit dem Buddhismus wanderte das indische Schriftsystem nach Südostasien und über die Vermittlung durch chinesische Mönche die chinesische Schrift nach Korea und Japan. Jedoch ist die Geschichte der Schrift viel älter als die großen Religionen der Gegenwart und folgt der Ausbreitung von Philosophie und Geistesgeschichte ebenso, wie der der Schriftreligionen
