Informationsspeichervorrichtung, aufweisend: ein plattenförmiges Speichermedium (2), einen das Medium drehbar lagernden Motor (3), eine Motoransteuerschaltung (4) zum Ansteuern des Motors, einen Schreib- oder Lesekopf (5), einen Kopfantriebsmechanismus (6) zum Antrieb des Kopfes, eine mit dem Kopfantriebsmechanismus verbundene Kopfansteuerschaltung (7), und eine sowohl mit der Kopfansteuerschaltung als auch mit der Motoransteuerschaltung verbundene CPU (8), die einen Kopf-Suchmodus-Auswahlschalter (15) zur Wahl eines von mehreren Suchmodi entsprechend einem Befehl von einer übergeordneten Vorrichtung aufweist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die vom Auswahlschalter (15) wählbaren Kopf-Suchmodi einen ersten und einen zweiten Suchmodus enthalten, von denen der erste Suchmodus ein Schnellmodus ist, in dem die Kopfansteuerschaltung (7) dem Kopfantriebsmechanismus (6) einen ersten Ansteuerstrom zuführt, und der zweite Suchmodus ein leiser Modus ist, in dem die Kopfansteuerschaltung (7) dem Kopfantriebsmechanismus (6) einen zweiten Ansteuerstrom zuführt, so daß der Schallpegel der Informationsspeichervorrichtung (101) im zweiten Suchmodus niedriger als im ersten Suchmodus ist und der Energieverbrauch der Informationsspeichervorrichtung im zweiten Suchmodus niedriger als im ersten ist.

An information storing device, comprising: a disk-shaped memory medium (2); a motor (3) rotatably supporting the medium; a motor driving circuit (4) to drive the motor; a read or write head (5); a head driving mechanism (6) to drive the head; a head driving circuit (7) coupled to the head driving mechanism; and a CPU (8), coupled to both the head driving circuit and the motor driving circuit, including a head seek mode selecting switch (15) to select one of a plurality of seek modes according to a command from a higher rank device, characterised in that said head seek modes selectable by said selecting switch (15) include first and second seek modes, wherein, said first seek mode is a quick mode where the head driving circuit (7) gives a first drive current to said head driving mechanism (6), and said second seek mode is a silent mode where said head driving circuit (7) gives a second drive current to said head driving mechanism (6), so that the noise level of said information storing device (101) is lower in said second seek mode than in said first seek mode and the power consumption of the information storing device is lower in said second seek mode than in said first seek mode.
