In Europa sind alle Waldtypen vertreten, von der Taiga bis hin zu den tropischen Regenwäldern Guayanas, und wir müssen ihren Bestand sichern, indem wir die biologische Vielfalt dieser sehr empfindlichen Ökosysteme erhalten.

All types of forest are represented in Europe, from taiga to the tropical forests of Guyana, and we must ensure their continued existence by preserving the biodiversity of these very fragile ecosystems.

Am Morgen, direkt nach dem Frühstück fahren wir mit dem Auto zur größten Insel des Baikalsees, dem 350 Kilometer entfernten Olchon. Unterwegs passieren wir verschiedene Landschaften, weite Steppen wechseln sich ab mit den tiefen Wäldern der Taiga und felsigen Klippen der Baikal-Uferregion. Wir halten unterwegs in einem Straßencafé, das die lokale Spezialität Posy anbietet – im Dampfbad gekochte, mit gewürztem Hackfleisch gefüllte Teigtaschen. Dies ist das Hauptgericht aller Einheimischen.

In the morning just after the breakfast you will have a morning transfer by car to the biggest island on Baikal Lake – Olkhon. First part of the road is paved, last stretch - gravel. Whole route length is about 350 km, on the way you will see different landscape types – vast steppes, wintry Taiga forest and rocky shores of Baikal Lake. On the way we will make a stop for lunch in one of the local road cafes, where you may try local specialty – dumplings with meat cooked on steam – main dish of native cuisine.

In China and other parts of Asia the taiga tick (Ixodes persulcatus) is the key vector, whereas North America has both the black-legged tick or ‘deer tick’ (Ixodes scapularis/dammini) and the western black-legged tick (Ixodes pacificus).
