Die Konvektion als Wärmeübertragung erfolgt ebenfalls nach dem Prinzip der Wärmeleitung, wobei das Übertragen innerhalb eines Gases, soweit im Vakuum noch vorhanden, von einer Zone hoher Temperatur zu einer Zone niedriger Temperatur stattfindet. Dies geschieht durch Auftrieb. Da dieser Effekt mit sinkendem Druck immer geringer wird, ist er in der Vakuumtechnik vernachlässigbar und unterhalb von ca. 10 mbar nicht mehr zu beobachten.
