Das Staatliche Straßenverkehrsamt hat die Verantwortung für die Planung, den Bau, den Betrieb und die Instandhaltung des nationalen und regionalen Straßennetzes sowie für die Verkehrsaufsicht. Die Behörde erarbeitet Verordnungen und Richtlinien für Straßenbau, Straßenverkehr, Verkehrsunterricht und Fahrzeuge und trägt außerdem die Verantwortung für das Fährenangebot auf Fernverkehrsstraßen.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is responsible for the planning, construction, operation and maintenance of the national and county roads network and for the supervision of motor vehicles and motorists. It drafts regulations and guidelines for road design, road traffic, driver training and motor vehicles. In addition, it is responsible for ferry operations on national roads.

Ich glaube ferner an Hilfsinstrumente sowie an Instrumente für das Verkehrsverhalten, beispielsweise Telematik als Kontroll- aber auch als Hilfselement; ich glaube vor allem jedoch an den Verkehrsunterricht für Jugendliche in den Schulen.

I still believe in means of assistance and behavioural measures, such as telematics as a means of control but also of assistance. However, I particularly believe in educating school children.

Eine gute Fahrausbildung, Verkehrsunterricht in der Schule, Informationskampagnen, Kontrolle der Einhaltung der Verkehrsregeln wie Fahr- und Ruhezeiten und eine hohe Wahrscheinlichkeit, bei Übertretung gefaßt zu werden, sind dafür unverzichtbar.

Better training for drivers, road safety education in schools, information campaigns, enforcement of traffic regulations such as those relating to rest and driving times for professional drivers (with a serious chance of getting caught) are indispensable if this reduction is to be achieved.
