Seit Dezember 2011 ist der natürliche Süßstoff Stevia in der EU zugelassen und darf in rund 31 Lebensmittelkategorien eingesetzt werden. Stevia schmeckt ähnlich wie Zucker, ist aber 300-mal süßer. Zudem enthält die natürliche Süße keine Kalorien und verursacht keinen Karies, der Verzehr ist auch für Diabetiker unbedenklich. Allerdings gibt es momentan noch strikte Mengen-Einschränkungen für den Einsatz von Stevia. Kaum ein Hersteller wird so aktuell zu 100 Prozent auf die Wundersüße setzen können. Und auch zu Hause ist die Verwendung bislang nicht unproblematisch: Durch die extrem hohe Süßkraft, gibt es Dosierungsprobleme. Bei einem Kuchen zum Beispiel kann man nicht 1:1 den Zucker durch Stevia ersetzen. Die Mengenverhältnisse eines Rezepts geraten aus dem Gleichgewicht.

Wir haben für diesen Bericht gestimmt, weil die Funktionsweise von Erzeugerorganisationen durch die Einführung eines Krisenmanagementsystems und die Förderung des Absatzes von Obst, Gemüse und lokalen Sorten, deren Verzehr sich positiv auf die öffentliche Gesundheit auswirkt, verbessert werden soll.

We voted in favour of this report, because it proposes to improve the running of producer organisations by introducing a crisis management system and by promoting fruit and vegetables, and local varieties thereof, given that eating fruit and vegetables makes a positive contribution to public health.
