Wanderzirkus

Ich weiß, dass wir als Wanderzirkus bekannt sind, aber ab Mai 2004 werden wir wohl tatsächlich unsere eigenen Zelte aufschlagen müssen, weil die Hotelkapazität für das erweiterte Parlament einfach nicht ausreichen wird.

I know we are known as a travelling circus but, come May 2004, we may literally have to camp out in our tents because there will not be enough hotel rooms as a result of the enlarged Parliament.

Ich habe daraufhin einen Brief geschrieben, den die Times abdruckte. Darin schreibe ich, die europäischen Steuerzahler fänden es wirtschaftlicher, diesen Wanderzirkus, der pro Jahr 169 Millionen Euro für Flüge nach Straßburg verschlingt, nicht zu subventionieren.

This led me to write a letter that The Times printed, saying the European taxpayer would find it more profitable not to subsidise this EUR 169 million a year travelling circus to Strasbourg at all.

Nebenbei bemerkt, findet sich in dem Papier kein Hinweis auf die Petition von einer Million europäischer Bürger zu dem Wanderzirkus, der Millionen verschlingt und sich Europäisches Parlament nennt.

Incidentally, there is no reference in the document to the petition of a million European citizens about the travelling circus, swallowing up millions, that is the European Parliament.

So hätte Herr Reinfeldt ankündigen müssen, dass Schweden der Reform der Agrarpolitik Priorität einräumt und ein Ende des Wanderzirkus des Europäischen Parlaments fordert.

Mr Reinfeldt should thus have given notice that Sweden would prioritise a reform of the agricultural policy and demand an end to the European Parliament's travelling circus.
