Ihr beobachtender Blick registriert subtil sowohl jene Momente, in denen das Politische im Alltag abwesend ist – immerhin bleibt unklar, auf welche Weise die Schülervertretung der Schule zugute kommt – als auch solche, in denen es umso deutlichere Spuren zeitigt: beim Hissen der Flagge oder bei Diskussionen im Klassenzimmer über die Verfassung und Gesetzgebungsverfahren. Indem die Lehrer in Frage stellen, ob die Schüler lediglich das ihnen eingetrichterte Wissen wiederkäuen, verweisen sie nicht nur auf die eigene Arbeit, sondern auch auf die politische Haltung einer heranwachsenden Generation.

Yet this is by no means the only way in which Celina Murga’s institutional portrait evokes the world beyond the school gates. Murga’s observational camera is subtly attuned to the traces of the political in the everyday as well as the moments in which these are lacking, whether in the flag-raising ceremony, classroom discussions on the constitution or legislative processes or the absence of any evidence as to how the student council’s work actually benefits the school.
