Fast alle Distributionen lassen sich ohne GUI installieren. Das hat den Vorteil dass das Betriebssystem klein und Ressourcen schonend bleibt, ideal für Server. Das Uferinterface bei Mac OS X nennt sich Aqua und wird von dem sehr auffälligen Dock dominiert. Für Linux gibt es viele verschiedene user interfaces wie z.B. KDE, GNOME, xfc. Da ist für jeden etwas dabei und dank des Source Codes können noch weitere user interfaces entwickelt werden. Bei Mac OS X ist der source code leider nicht einsehbar.
