Haare: Die Haare sind normalerweise weich und glatt. Genick: Neugeborene Babys mit Down-Syndrom können zusätzliche Hautfalten im Genick haben, die aber gewöhnlich mit dem Wachstum verschwinden. Muskeltonus: Die Gliedmaßen und der Hals kleiner Kinder mit Down-Syndrom sind oft schlaff. Diese Muskelschwäche nennt man Hypotonie. Mund: Die Mundhöhle weist oft einen schmalen, hohen Gaumen auf. Aufgrund eines schwächeren Muskeltonus kann die Zunge bei ungenügendem Mundschluß zeitweise aus dem Mund herausschauen.

Muscle tone: The limbs and the neck of young children with Down syndrome are often lax. This weakness is called hypotension. Mouth: The oral cavity is a narrow, high palate. Due to a weak muscle tone, the tongue muscels occasionally protrude from the mouth.
