A big part of the Blue Mountains is heavily fissured and up to date, it is only accessible on foot.

Wenn, anders als in Landau kein heißes Wasser im Erdreich vorhanden ist wir häufig die hot dry rock technology verwendet. Zunächst wird ein vertikales Loch in die Erde gebohrt, bis eine Tiefe mit der gewünschten Gesteinstemperatur erreicht wird. Wenn man dem Gestein nun direkt die Wärme z.B. mittels Wasser als Wärmetransportmedium entziehen würde, wäre das Bohrloch bald unbrauchbar. Die schlechte Wärmeleitfähigkeit des Gesteins verhindert, daß ausreichend Wärme aus der Umgebung des Bohrlochs nachgeliefert werden kann. Stattdessen wird am unteren Ende des Bohrloches eine Sprengung durchgeführt, die es rund um die Bohrung zerklüftet. Wenn man jetzt die Wärme entnimmt, erreicht man mit dem Wasser ein viel größeres Gesteinsvolumen über die vergrößerte Oberfläche des gesprengten Gesteins.

If it would escape the heat such as using water as a heat transport medium the rock directly, the hole would soon unusable. The poor thermal conductivity of the rock prevents that sufficient heat from the surroundings of the wellbore can be supplied. Instead, at the bottom of the borehole is a demolition carried it around the hole cleft. It now takes the heat, reaching a much higher volume of rock over the increased surface area of the blasted rock with water.
