I’m writing to share some news related to the sale of our Office and Consumer Products business to 3M. As a result of concerns raised by the Department of Justice surrounding the transaction, Avery Dennison and 3M have voluntarily withdrawn the filing we made earlier this year seeking regulatory approval of the deal. You can read the press release here. It’s important to note that we have not terminated the purchase agreement. In fact, Avery Dennison and 3M remain committed to a deal and plan to work together to obtain the necessary approvals to complete a transaction. Both companies continue to believe the sale will benefit customers and consumers, and will maximize the value of the business for all stakeholders.

Prior to its successful bid in 1995, the city had attempted four times to secure the games; failing each time. In 1998 members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) were accused of taking bribes from the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC) during the bidding process. The allegations resulted in the expulsion of several IOC members, and the adoption of new IOC rules. Legal charges were brought against the leaders of Salt Lake's bid committee by the United States Department of Justice; of which all parties were later acquitted.[1]
