The Niue Night-Heron was slightly larger than the Rufous Night-Heron (Nycticorax caledonicus (Gmelin)) but had smaller wings. So it may have been a poor flyer or - what is more likely - flightless.

Der Niue-Nachtreiher war etwas größer als der Rotrücken-Nachtreiher (Nycticorax caledonicus (Gmelin)), hatte aber kürzere Flügel. Er war also entweder ein schlechter Flieger oder aber, was wahrscheinlicher ist, flugunfähig.
