might conceivably be the politest person I have ever met. When someone offers him a cappuccino, he can barely speak for gratitude. "Are you sure? Only if it's not too much trouble," he says, scrabbling in his pocket for change. He does seem to have a genuine, un-actorly concern for other people. So it comes as no surprise to learn that, after a year in which the 34-year-old won rave reviews for his lead performances in BBC1's Sherlock and After the Dance at the National theatre, Cumberbatch's latest project is a charitable venture designed to raise funds for the building of a children's community and arts centre in South Africa. "
However, despite this forward vision, it has never forgotten or neglected its past, indeed it treasures and protects its history and culture, in the ballet, the Opera House, the Everyman Theatre, Triskel Arts Centre, National Sculpture Factory, Crawford Art Gallery, Crawford College of Art and Design, University College Cork, Cork Institute of Technology, the School of Music, the College of Commerce, to mention just a few.

Southbank has 2 kilometres of absolute Yarra River frontage which is lined by wide pedestrian promenades offering scenic views of the river and city skyline. At the suburb's eastern riverfront end is Princes Bridge which leads directly to Melbourne's CBD and was the site of Melbourne's first crossing of the Yarra River. Adjacent to the bridge is Arts Centre Melbourne which includes a concert hall and several theatres dominated by a distinctive white spire which soars into the sky. Heading westwards along Southbank Promenade is the multi-level Southgate shopping centre which features a host of retail outlets, restaurants and cafes that overlook the river. At Queensbridge Square is the historic Sandridge Bridge which was constructed in 1888 for the railway line linking the city with Port Melbourne and St Kilda, but was later redeveloped into a pedestrian bridge lined with public art sculptures.
