Tinguely began training as a window-dresser in Basel in 1941, first at the Globus department store and then with the decorator Joos Hutter: during and after his training the young man also attended courses at the Basel commercial college, where Julia Eble-Ris, his teacher of materials and of figure, nude and fashion drawing, was instrumental in introducing him to the achievements of the avant-garde artists of the early 20th century and to Abstraction, the Dada movement, the Bauhaus, etc.

Ab 1941 absolvierte Tinguely in Basel eine Dekorateur-Ausbildung, zuerst am Warenhaus Globus, dann beim Dekorateur Joos Hutter: Während und auch nach Abschluss seiner Ausbildung besuchte der junge Mann Kurse an der Gewerbeschule Basel, in denen ihn besonders Julia Eble-Ris, seine Lehrerin für Material- kunde, Gegenstands-, Akt- und Modezeichnen, ihn mit den Errungenschaften der Avantgarden des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts wie der Abstraktion, der Dada-Bewegung, dem Bauhaus u.a. vertraut machte.

Altogether 700 students are attending courses at Alimentec, the research and technology centre for applied nutritional sciences located in Bourg-en-Bresse (faculties: biology, energy sciences, informatics and biotechnology), or are qualified by the commercial college of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Bourg-en-Bresse.

Weitere 700 Studenten werden am ernährungswissenschaftlichen Forschungs- und Technologiezentrum Alimentec in Bourg-en-Bresse zum FH-Ingenieur (Fachbereiche: Biologie, Energiewissenschaft, Informatik und Biotechnologie) oder an der Handelshochschule der Industrie- und Handelskammer in Bourg-en-Bresse ausgebildet.
