I would suggest that the Commission refocuses and looks more closely at sending the things we can provide quickly, such as skilled experts, fishermen, carpenters, engineers, blacksmiths, boat builders, and the money to get people over there, as quickly as possible, to start rebuilding the kind of vessels they need to help replace the ones destroyed, instead of this nonsense of sending redundant, old, decrepit boats from the Mediterranean as a symbolic gesture.

Hilfe kann ja sehr vielfältig sein.Soforthilfe könnte aber auch darin bestehen, dass man Fischereiboote, die in der Europäischen Union sowieso aus dem Verkehr gezogen werden, dorthin bringt.

Ich würde vorschlagen, dass die Kommission den Schwerpunkt anders setzt und sich eingehender damit befasst, die Dinge zu schicken, die wir rasch bereitstellen können, wie erfahrene Experten, Fischer, Zimmerleute, Ingenieure, Schmiede, Bootsbauer und das Geld, um die Leute schnellstmöglich dorthin zu bringen, sodass mit dem Neubau solcher Schiffe begonnen werden kann, die zum Ersatz der zerstörten Fahrzeuge benötigt werden, anstelle dieses Unsinns, als symbolische Geste überzählige, alte, klapprige Boote aus dem Mittelmeer zu entsenden.

Sigi has given so many big and wonderful parties for so many of us over the years that I am determined she should have one for herself. With the nasty shocks we have had this year with Renate and Calum, I feel that we should give Sigi a good party while we are (a) still alive and (b) not too decrepit to enjoy it, and to allow everyone to show and tell her publicly how much she is appreciated ! It won’t be very grand , but it’s the gesture that counts.

Sigi hat so viele große und wunderbare Partys für so viele von uns gegeben im Laufe der Jahre, dass ich bin fest entschlossen, sie sollte ein für sich selbst zu haben. Mit den fiesen Schlag hatten wir in diesem Jahr wurden mit Renate und Calum glaube ich, dass wir sollten Sigi eine gute Party, während wir (a) noch am Leben sind und (b) nicht zu altersschwach, es zu genießen, und um jedem zu zeigen und ihr sagen öffentlich, wie sehr sie geschätzt wird! Es wird nicht sehr groß, aber es ist die Geste, die zählt.
