ECONOMY Economy - overview: Lebanon has a free-market economy and a strong laissez-faire commercial tradition. The government does not restrict foreign investment; however, the investment climate suffers from red tape, corruption, arbitrary licensing decisions, complex customs procedures, high taxes, tariffs, and fees, archaic legislation, and weak intellectual property rights. The Lebanese economy is service-oriented; main growth sectors include banking and tourism. The 1975-90 civil war seriously damaged Lebanon's economic infrastructure, cut national output by half, and derailed Lebanon's position as a Middle Eastern entrepot and banking hub. Following the civil war Lebanon rebuilt much of its war-torn physical and financial infrastructure by borrowing heavily - mostly from domestic banks – saddling the government with a huge debt burden.

WIRTSCHAFT Wirtschaft - Überblick: Der Libanon hat eine freie Marktwirtschaft und eine starke laissez-faire kommerzielle Tradition. Die Regierung schränkt ausländische Investitionen, jedoch leidet das Investitionsklima von Bürokratie, Korruption, willkürliche Genehmigungsbeschlüsse, komplexe Zollverfahren, hohe Steuern, Zölle und Abgaben, archaische Gesetze und schwache Rechte an geistigem Eigentum. Die libanesische Wirtschaft ist service-orientiert; wichtigsten Wachstumsbranchen zählen Banken und Tourismus. Die 1975-90 Bürgerkriegs ernsthaft Libanon wirtschaftlichen Infrastruktur beschädigt, geschnitten nationalen Produktion um die Hälfte, und entgleiste Libanon Position als Middle Eastern entrepot und Banking-Hub. Nach dem Bürgerkrieg im Libanon wiederaufgebaut viel von ihrer vom Krieg zerrissenen physischen und finanziellen Infrastruktur durch Kreditaufnahme stark - meist von inländischen Banken - satteln die Regierung mit einer riesigen Schuldenlast.
