The nature of the clasts (mainly limestone and sandstone clasts) implies that their source area was located in the southern area of the Pyrenees, which suggests that the Jaca Basin had progressed to an erosive stage (Yuste et al., 2004). The Huesca fluvial system resulted from the coalescence of both fans: the Huesca fan, to the east, and the Balces fan, to the west. In the western sector some marginal, small alluvial fans remained, which also retrograded during this stage.

Smaller springs and streams serve as tributaries to the principal rivers. Because the rivers and streams have such steep gradients and are so fast moving, they are erosive instead of depository in nature. This process is aided by the soft character of the limestone that composes much of the mountains, the steep slopes of the mountains, and the heavy rainstorms. The only permanent lake is Buhayrat al Qirawn, about ten kilometers east of Jazzin. There is one seasonal lake, fed by springs, on the eastern slopes of the Lebanon Mountains near Yammunah, about forty kilometers southeast of Tripoli.

Kleinere Quellen und Bäche dienen als Zubringer zu den wichtigsten Flüssen. Da die Flüsse und Bäche wie Steigungen haben und so schnell bewegen, sind sie erosive statt Hinterlegungsstelle in der Natur. Dieser Prozess wird durch den weichen Charakter des Kalksteins, die viel von den Bergen, den steilen Hängen der Berge, und die schweren Regenfälle komponiert unterstützt. Die einzige dauerhafte See ist Buhayrat al Qirawn, etwa zehn Kilometer östlich von Jazzin. Es gibt einen saisonalen See, der von Quellen gespeist, an den östlichen Hängen des Libanon-Gebirge in der Nähe Yammunah, etwa 40 Kilometer südöstlich von Tripolis.
