In 1867, at the International Exhibition in Paris, the advantages of hydrogen peroxide were demonstrated by a London chemist, E.H.Thiellay, and Leon Hugot, a Parisian hairdresser. At the time, their lotion was called Eau de fontaine de Jouvence dorée (Golden water from the fountain of youth) or teinture blonde anglaise (English blond dye). It was a 3% solution (10 vol.). Their method rapidly became popular. To date, oxidizing products are still the basis of bleaching preparations. Hydrogen peroxide is used alone, or together with ammonia, or mixed with peroxy salts or peroxides.
