The fundamental mathematical entity in graph theory is the binary directed graph or digraph and represents the basic units of analysis. It is a set of nodes and a set of links, which connect pairs of nodes. A digraph represents the simplest form of choice data, the unranked choices on a single criterion. Further, the adjective binary represents the added constraint that it is not allowed to the links to have strengths or that the links may be of different types, {Agrawal 2009 #590: 63}, {Steger 2007 #544: 57}, {Diestel 2005 #591: 17-30}.
