A method of detecting the presence of a nucleic acid comprising complementary DNA (cDNA) or messenger RNA (mRNA) that encodes cortistatin in a human body sample containing the nucleic acid comprising the steps of: (a) hybridizing the nucleic acid in the body sample with an oligonucleotide that includes at least 10 contiguous nucleotides from the nucleotide sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 1 from nucleotide 324 to nucleotide 366 to form a hybridization product; and (b) detecting the presence of the hybridization product.

A nucleotide sequence, characterized in that it consists of: a) one of the nucleotide concatenations identified in the following sequence listing: SEQ ID NO: 9 (VanH), SEQ ID NO: 10 (VanX); b) a sequence coding for a gene, hybridizing under stringent conditions with a complementary sequence of one of the concatenations identified in a), provided that they can detect strains resistant to antibiotics from the glycopeptide family; c) one of the nucleotide concatenations identified in the following sequence listing: SEQ ID NO: 21 (VanC); SEQ ID NO: 23 (VanR) or SEQ ID NO: 24 (VanS); or d) a fragment of the sequences identified in a) or c), allowing the detection of strains resistant to antibiotics from the glycopeptide family.
