The vacuum pump discharges are pulled through the 2-stage scrubber system using an I.D. fan. The first stage is a wet scrubber consisting of a packed column that uses recirculating 5% by weight Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4) solution. The solution is pumped from Tank 3 to the top of the packed tower, where it is distributed by spray nozzle over the packing cross-section and irrigates by gravity to the bottom, draining through a pipe into the top of Tank 1. The solution continues to flow by gravity from top to bottom of Tank 2 and then top to bottom of Tank 3. Starting volume in each tank is nominally 11,355 liters. Within the tanks, the acid catalyzes the hydrolysis of the absorbed EtO to Ethylene Glycol (EtG).

Die Lösung setzt durch die Schwerkraft von oben nach unten von Tank 2 fließen und dann von oben nach unten Tank 3. Ausgangsvolumen in jedem Tank ist nominal 11.355 Liter. Innerhalb der Tanks, die Säure katalysiert die Hydrolyse des absorbierten EtO um Ethylenglycol (EtG).
