This monocarpic (dies after flowering) biennial grows 1m tall the first year then sends up a 3-4m tall spire of pink flowers. Likes sun to part shade and well-mulched, well-drained soils. Suits climate zones 7-10. Collect seed after it flowers to grow more seedlings as replacements. A truly spectacular sight when in flower, and this pink form is the rarest colour form. This species of Echium is not a Noxious Weed (E vulgare and E plantagineum are, but not this species) Photo is a closeup of the pink flowers and the second photo is of a purple form in flower – this is similar but has purple flowers, where as this one has pink flowers.
