A breach of contract claim requires the plaintiff to show “(1) formation of a contract; (2) performance by plaintiff of any conditions precedent; (3) a material breach of the contract by defendant; and (5) damages.” Briggs Trans. The first to use the term in association with bottom currents were Heezen and Johnson (1963), who stated that ‘‘scour and drift of sediments due to current activity are the most reasonable explanation of sedimentmoats’’ that were identified at that time next to seamounts and other striking morphological structures in the Atlantic and Pacific. The drift of sediment particles by the geostrophic circulation was later recognized as responsible not only for sediment moats, but also for sediment knolls (Heezen et al., 1966) as the drift could focus sedimentation in certain areas of the continental rise.
