Alternatively, track items can be placed on existing track segments. In that case the track segment is automatically split. If a point switch is placed on an existing track segment the split operation is performed by connecting the existing and new track segment via the straight route of the point switch. All existing track routes leading over the existing track segment get invalid in that case and must be planned again (see 9.2). If a crossing is placed on an existing track segment the split operation is performed by connecting the existing and new track segment via the horizontal route of the crossing. This action has no effect on existing track routes.
