misery index

As far as bands now days, there isn't a lot that sticks out. I like Disavowed, Misery Index, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Amon Amarth, Exhumed, Necrophagist, and Iniquity amongst some others. I think Amon Amarth are great at what they do as well! I also like some black, doom, and a lot of classic metal as well.
