The three days of national mourning announced by the Prime Minister, Kostas Karamanlis, cannot cover up for the total failure of the State to protect its citizens and come to the aid of villagers surrounded by flames, in a country where scorching summers and fire risks are a common occurrence.

Die von Premierminister Kostas Karamanlis verfügte dreitägige Nationaltrauer kann nicht über die völlige Unfähigkeit des Staates hinwegtäuschen, seine Bewohner zu schützen und den von den Flammen eingeschlossenen Dorfbewohnern zu Hilfe zu kommen, und das in einem Land, wo glutheiße Sommer und Brandgefahren an der Tagesordnung sind.
