A recognizing and judging apparatus having a network organized in a multilayered hierarchical manner and comprising: a given number of branched tree structures (t1-t3) each having a plurality of layers, said given number being equal to a number of sets of characteristic data of an object to be recognized by said apparatus; and a plurality of recognition units constituting said branched tree structures (t1-t3) and positioned in said plurality of layers, each of said recognition units comprising: a signal input section (11) to which a signal is inputted; a quantizer (12) for quantizing said signal inputted to said signal input section (11); a path input section (13a) having at least one path input terminal (13a -13a ); a path output section (13b) having at least one path output terminal (13b -13b ); a path selecting section (13c-13f) operatively coupled with both said path input section (13a) and said path output section (13b) for selectively providing connection therethrough between said at least one path input terminal (13a -13a ) and said at least one path output terminal (13b -13b ) according to an output of said quantizer (12); and a path selecting section of each of said recognition units positioned on a layer adjacent to a lowermost layer of said plurality of layers comprising a learning device (13f ) for changing a strength of connection between said at least one path input terminal (13a -13a ) and a path output terminal (13b -13b ) indicated by the output of said quantizer (12); characterized in that said learning device (13f 4 ) comprises a maximum-output-terminal detector (13f 41 ) for detecting a path output terminal from which a maximum path signal is outputted, a comparator (13f 42 ) for comparing the number of the path output terminal detected by said maximum-output-terminal detector (13f 41 ) and a number assigned to a path output terminal indicated by the output of said quantizer (12), and a load increaser (13f 43 ) for increasing a strength of connection between said path input terminal (13a 1 ) and said path output terminal indicated by the output of said quantizer (12) based on a result of comparison performed by said comparator (13f 42 ).

Vorrichtung zum Erkennen und Beurteilen mit einem Netzwerk, das nach Art einer mehrschichtigen Hierarchie organisiert ist und folgendes umfaßt: eine gegebene Zahl von verzweigten Baumstrukturen (t1 - t3), die jeweils eine Vielzahl von Schichten haben, wobei die gegebene Zahl einer Zahl von Sätzen charakteristischer Daten eines vom Gerät zu erkennenden Objektes ist und eine Vielzahl von Erkennungseinheiten, welche die verzweigte Baumstruktur (t1 - t3) bilden und in der erwähnten Vielzahl von Schichten positioniert sind, wobei jede Erkennungseinheit folgendes umfaßt: einen Abschnitt zur Pfadauswahl für jede der Erkennungseinheiten, die auf einer Schicht angeordnet sind, welche neben einer tiefsten Schicht der erwähnten Vielzahl von Schichten positioniert ist, welche eine Lernvorrichtung (13f ) umfassen, um die Verbindungsstärke zwischen dem mindestens einen Pfadeingabeterminal (13a -13a ) und dem Pfadausgabeterminal (13b -13b ) zu ändern, die vom Ausgang der Quantisierungsvorrichtung (12) angezeigt wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Lernvorrichtung (13f 4 ) eine Vorrichtung zum Erfassen von maximalen Ausgabeterminals (13f 41 ) umfaßt, um ein Pfadausgabeterminal zu erfassen, von dem ein maximales Pfadsignal ausgegeben wird, einen Komparator (13f 42 ) zum Vergleichen der Zahl des Pfadausgabeterminals, das von der Vorrichtung zum Erfassen der maximalen Ausgabeterminals (13f 41 ) erfaßt wird, mit einer vom Ausgang der Quantisierungsvorrichtung (12) angegebenen Zahl, die einem Pfadausgabeterminal zugeordnet wird sowie eine Vorrichtung zur Lastenerhöhung (13f 43 ) zum Vergrößern einer Verbindungsstärke zwischen dem Pfadeingabeterminal (13a 1 ) und dem vom Ausgang der Quantisierungsvorrichtung (12) angegebenen Pfadausgabeterminal, basierend auf einem Ergebnis eines vom Komparator (13f 42 ) durchgeführten Vergleichs.
