The excursion starts with a visit of the "Rammelsberg" mine just outside the town of Goslar.

St. Leo the Great was originally from the Cortona area and finally St. Margaret, born in the Siena area and later adopted by the town when, the widow of a nobleman from Montepulciano, she was thrown out of native Laviano and came as a penitent woman to Cortona where she catered for the poor and the needy.

Die ghibellinische Kleinstadt Cortona hat mehrmals die guelfische Stadt Arezzo herausgefordert, auch wenn sie nicht immer erfolgreiche Ergebnisse erreiche konnte. In der Geschichte der Stadt ist diese aber nur eine Übergangsphase, die seinen religiösen und mystischen Ruhm nicht trüben konnte: Spuren der Heiligen wie San Francesco, der die Klause der Klosterzellen begründet hatte, Frate Elia, der der erster Jünger von San Francesco gewesen ist, San Leone Magno, der gerade in Cortona geboren wurde und Santa Margherita und zwar die Schutzheilige von Cortona, die aus der Nähe von Siena kam und die von der Stadt Cortona herzlich empfangen wurde, als sie nach dem Tode ihres Mannes, eines Edelmannes aus Montepulciano, ihr restliches Leben in Cortona verbrachte, um den Armen und den Bedürftigten zu helfen. In Cortona war sie wegen ihrer Wunder sehr beliebt.
