performance of one's duty

One of the most important events in Germany was the rise of Lutheran Protestantism. To Luther, having work was not an obligation to change and form the material and social world according to the divine commandments, but the calling for a place in a given corporative structure predetermined by tradition. In this case, it was performance of one's duty and obedience to the existing norms of the professional environment and to the laws of the state only that mattered. Quite obviously, it is a very small step from here to what later became known as Prussian discipline and subservience, which today survives in the high regard Germans have for values like abiding to law, and being conformist.

Eines der wichtigsten Ereignisse in Deutschland wurde der Aufschwung des lutherischen Protestantismus. Luther dass Arbeit nicht ändern und bilden den materiellen und sozialen Welt nach den göttlichen geboten verpflichtet war, sondern die Berufung für einen Platz in einer bestimmten korporative Struktur vorgegeben durch Tradition. In diesem Fall war es die Leistung des eigenen Pflicht und Gehorsam zu den bestehenden Normen der professionellen Umfeld und den Gesetzen des Staates nur das zählte. Ganz offensichtlich ist es ein sehr kleiner Schritt von hier aus, was später bekannt wurde, als für Werte wie Zeitzonenänderungen, die bleibende und konformistische wird preußische Disziplin und Unterwürfigkeit, die heute in den deutschen hohe Beachtung überlebt haben.
