Click on one of the lines you have just plotted. Now the cross hair gets the colour of the plot and is attached to the plot. You can use the mouse to move the cross hair along the plot. In the status bar at the bottom of the window the coordinates of the current position is displayed. Note that if the plot touches the x-axis the root will be displayed in the status bar, too.

To use the tool, select a variable star either by designation or name in the left panel, and set the start and end dates to be plotted. In the right panel, select the type of data that should be plotted (see below). When you have made you selections, press the Retrieve Curve button. kstars; will automatically connect to the AAVSO server, which will generate the lightcurve plot and send it to your computer for display.
