he radar station code named (Osteck) was the eyes and ears for the defence of Cherbourg. It was well equipped with two Freya, one Wassermann, and two Wurzburg radar's. The site was ringed with machine gun emplacements and several flak positions, no doubt controlled by radar. There were also two giant spotlights with a diameter of 150mm to illuminate incoming aircraft, as well as ships at sea.. The are also bunkers for ammunition as well as living quarters for personnel manning the guns. These emplacements show signs of damage from both land, sea and air attacks.

Die Website wurde mit Maschinengewehr Stellungen und mehrere Flakstellungen zweifellos durch Radar gesteuert beringt. Es gab auch zwei riesige Scheinwerfer mit einem Durchmesser von 150mm bis ankommenden Flugzeuge beleuchten, sowie Schiffe auf dem Meer .. Das sind auch Bunker für Munition sowie Wohnräume für das Personal Besatzung der Kanonen. Diese Stellungen zeigen Anzeichen von Schäden von Land-, See-und Luftangriffe.

On 16 December, Grayson returned to Puget Sound Navy Yard for a third overhaul; then from March through August 1944 was attached to a reconstituted DesDiv 24 with Wilkes, Nicholson and Swanson, operating in the Solomon, Caroline, and Marshall Islands and supporting General MacArthur’s landings in the Admiralty Islands and jungle campaign in Dutch New Guinea. On 1 September, Grayson was reassigned to Task Group 38 for carrier strikes against the Palau Islands prior to the landings there. On the 14th, with DesRon 12 flagship Farenholt and McCalla, she bombarded a radar station at Cape San Augustin at the mouth of Mindanao’s Davao Gulf, the first such action against a target in the Philippine Islands.

Am 16. Dezember kehrte Grayson, Puget Sound Navy Yard für eine dritte Überarbeitung; dann war von März bis August 1944 an einer rekonstituierten DesDiv 24 mit Wilkes, Nicholson und Swanson, tätig in der Solomon, Caroline, und Marshall-Inseln und unterstützenden General MacArthurs Anlandungen der Admiralitätsinseln und Dschungel-Kampagne in Niederländisch-Neuguinea angefügt.
 
 Am 1. September wurde Grayson Task Group 38 für Träger Streiks gegen die Palau-Inseln vor der Landung dort zugeordnet. Auf dem 14. mit DesRon 12 Flaggschiff Farenholt und McCalla, bombardiert sie eine Radar-Station am Kap San Augustin an der Mündung des Mindanao den Golf von Davao, die erste derartige Maßnahmen gegen ein Ziel in der philippinischen Inseln.
