In the crucifixion painting the cross with the Saviour rises up from a hilly landscape under a stormy sky with clouds parting to show where “mercy and truth have met together” and “righteousness and peace have kissed each other” (Psalm 85, verse 10). To the right a putto leads Adam and Eve to the cross, to the left Saint John the Evangelist, assisted by an Old Testament prophet, is holding an inscription tablet (text from the Gospel of St. John 18, verse 35, a quotation from the Passion story) and pointing to the cross, the sign of the New Covenant. The three Marys are standing in the background, accompanied by one of the sibyls.

Im Kreuzigungsbild, unter aufreißendem Wolkenhimmel, wo „Gerechtigkeit und Friede sich umarmen“ und „Gnade und Treue einander begegnen“ (Psalm 85,11), erhebt sich das Kreuz in erhöhter Landschaft. Rechts führt ein Putto das Erste Menschenpaar zum Kreuz, links weist Johannes Ev. mit Inschrifttafel auf das Bundeszeichen der Erlösung (Text: Johannes 19,35 - Zitat aus der Passionsgeschichte), assistiert von einem Propheten des Alten Bundes, weiter hinten stehen die Drei Marien, begleitet von einer Sibylle.
