Although great advances in mass production has been maintained, the photovoltaics industry today is still in a state in which the electronics industry was at the end of the 1970ies (with clear similiarities to crystalline photovoltaics) and the flat panel display sector at the end of the 1980ies (with similarities to thin film technologies).
