to reach an accommodation

Further to the amendment to the 2004 draft budget tabled in this House, and placing in reserve the appropriations under three of the budget headings related to the activities of DG Press, the Commission was given the task of trying to reach an accommodation that, as far as possible, satisfied the demands for operational continuity sought by Parliament, whilst also securing financial monitoring and control.

Erstens: Auf ihrer Sitzung am 11. November 2003 hat die Kommission zur Kenntnis genommen, dass wir die Frage der Beihilfen für die Gastgeber-Einrichtungen noch einmal erörtern und im Lichte des Ergebnisses des Haushaltstrialogs am 13. November zu einer endgültigen Entscheidung kommen müssen.

We are aware, Prime Minister, that the people of the Netherlands, too, have a great interest in making the European Union fit to face the challenges of the future, and in making it possible for shared European solutions to global tasks to be found, and I am convinced that, with good will, we will be able, in the course of the negotiations over the coming weeks and months, not only to reach an accommodation with one another, but also to produce something that will make the European Union democratic, transparent, and effective in action.

Herr Ministerpräsident, wir sind uns der Tatsache bewusst, dass gerade auch die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Niederlande ein großes Interesse daran haben, die Europäische Union auch für die Herausforderungen der Zukunft fit zu machen, und gemeinsam europäische Lösungen für globale Aufgaben zu ermöglichen. Mit gutem Willen - davon bin ich überzeugt - ist in den kommenden Wochen und Monaten bei den Verhandlungen nicht nur ein Aufeinanderzugehen, sondern auch ein Ergebnis für eine handlungsfähige, demokratische und transparente Europäische Union möglich.
